A lifetime of storytelling through art
For more than 35 years, Kelly Taylor has been creating and sharing Aboriginal artwork inspired by culture, family, Country and connection.
Of Yankunytjatjara/Pitjantjatjara and Kokatha heritage, Kelly was raised by her grandmother, Millie Taylor (née Lennon), who played a significant role in shaping both her life and artistic journey. From a young age, Millie taught Kelly stories, culture, connection to Country and the importance of sharing knowledge through art.
Many of the values, stories and traditions that continue to influence Kelly's work today were passed down through her grandmother's guidance and wisdom.

Three decades of practice
1978
Born in Port Augusta
Kelly Marie Taylor is born in Port Augusta, South Australia. She belongs to the Yankunytjatjara/Kokatha peoples and is custodian to her grandmother's stories as well as her own.
1989
A first canvas from her grandmother
At eleven, living in Alice Springs with her grandmother Millie Taylor (née Lennon), Kelly watches her paint for hours every day after school, until Millie prepares a canvas with a lightning dreaming design for her. Kelly has been painting ever since.
1994–1995
First Art Prize · Araluen Art Gallery
Kelly exhibits at Iwantja Arts Centre in Indulkana in 1994 and at Araluen Art Gallery in Alice Springs in 1995. At just 17, she wins her first art prize at Araluen for her painting Ngintaka, marking the beginning of a lifelong artistic journey.
1990s–2000s
International Collectors
Kelly's work begins entering private collections across Australia and internationally — Japan, the United States, Germany, Italy and New Zealand.
1999–2005
Exhibiting in Adelaide and Ceduna
Exhibitions at Tandanya in Adelaide (1999), The Australian Studio in Adelaide (2004 and 2005) and the Arts and Culture Centre in Ceduna (2005).
2010–2016
Art fairs and group exhibitions
Kelly shows at the Tandanya Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Fair (2010), Red Poles Gallery (2011), the Arts and Culture Centre in Ceduna (2015) and the Our Mob exhibition at Adelaide Festival Centre (2016).
2019
Tarnanthi, Our Mob and the Malka Art Prize
Kelly exhibits at the Tarnanthi Art Fair at Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute, the Our Mob exhibition at Adelaide Festival Centre QBE Galleries, and the Malka Aboriginal Art Prize at Yarta Purtli Gallery in Port Augusta.
2020
RFDS Flight Journey Line
With her daughter T'keyah Ware, Kelly creates Flight Journey Line for the Royal Flying Doctor Service SA/NT. Unveiled on 8 November 2020 at the RFDS Adelaide Base to launch NAIDOC Week, it is displayed across RFDS facilities and reproduced on uniforms worn by RFDS staff.

Disney × Bluethumb
KT Aboriginal Fine Art collaborates with Bluethumb and Disney on a project inspired by Disney and Pixar's Soul, celebrating family, storytelling and connection to Country.
2021–2022
Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair
Kelly takes part in the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Online in both 2021 and 2022.
2023
Tarnanthi and the Northline 40th anniversary
Kelly exhibits at the Tarnanthi Art Fair at Adelaide Entertainment Centre. With T'keyah, she paints the artwork for Northline's 40th anniversary, reproduced on a vinyl-wrapped shipping container unveiled at the celebrations in Adelaide.
2024
Ingham's, SA Water and Country Arts SA
Kelly creates an original artwork for the launch of Ingham's Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan. With T'keyah, she paints the artwork for SA Water's sixth Reconciliation Action Plan and an artwork used on Country Arts SA's national greeting cards.
2025
Connection with Country · SA Power Networks and Enerven
With T'keyah, Kelly creates Connection with Country, the centrepiece of SA Power Networks' Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan, unveiled at Adelaide Oval on 23 October 2025.
2026
Kelly's biggest project yet · To be revealed
A concept filling an entire building interior, featuring Kelly's artwork across large circular floor graphics, wrapped columns and suspended circular features, creating connected spaces for gathering and conversation.
