The artist
T’keyah Ware is a Yankunytjatjara, Kokatha, Wirangu and Narungga Aboriginal artist born in Port Augusta and raised in Ceduna on Wirangu Country in South Australia. She began painting as a teenager, learning alongside her mother, contemporary Aboriginal artist Kelly Taylor.
T’keyah paints alongside her mother Kelly Taylor and sisters Taliyah and Kelilah Ware, continuing a three-generation family tradition of Aboriginal storytelling that began with her great-grandmother Molly Terone Lennon and grandmother Millie Taylor (née Lennon).
Her paintings are vibrant and expressive, combining contemporary colour palettes with traditional Aboriginal dot painting techniques to depict scenes of family life on Country — hunting, gathering bush foods, travelling across the land and spending time together with community.
