The Story
About the Artwork
Desert Meets the Sea tells the story of two families connected through Country, culture and love.
Inspired by Kelly Taylor's Yankunytjatjara and Kokatha heritage from the desert regions of South Australia and her partner's Wirangu and Narungga connections to the coast, this artwork represents the coming together of two distinct landscapes and cultural traditions.
The earthy ochres, reds and warm desert tones represent the vast inland Country, while the flowing blues symbolise the ocean and coastal waters. Meeting places, journey lines and traditional symbols reflect the movement of families across Country and the enduring connections that unite communities.
