The Story

About the Artwork

Desert Meets the Sea tells the story of connection between two Countries, two families and two cultures.

The artwork follows a Yankunytjatjara and Kokatha desert woman who travels across Country with her family before arriving on Wirangu Country by the sea. There she meets a Wirangu and Narungga man who grew up near the coast. Their journey together becomes a story of connection, love and family.

The circular forms throughout the painting represent gathering places, family groups and important sites across Country, while the flowing pathways symbolise the journeys that connect people, cultures and landscapes. The contrast between warm desert tones and cool coastal colours reflects the meeting of the desert and the sea.

Painted in Kelly Taylor's contemporary Aboriginal style, the work celebrates family, belonging and the enduring connections between people and Country.

The artwork is hand signed by the artist and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
